The City of Paducah is proud to sponsor Paducah’s first ever community celebration of Juneteenth.  The Carson Center and the Paducah-McCracken County NAACP are holding the event from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, June 20 at the Carson Center.

The event includes an inspiring program featuring keynote speaker, Dr. Brandon McCormack.  Dr. McCormack is associate professor of Pan-African Studies and Comparative Humanities at the University of Louisville in addition to the director of the Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research.  Following the one-hour program will be a dinner on the Carson Center lawn.  The $15 ticket includes a reserved seat in the theatre for the program and a boxed barbeque dinner and live entertainment on the lawn.  A cash bar will be available.

For tickets, call the Carson Center at 270-450-4444 or visit www.thecarsoncenter.org/events/juneteenth-celebration.

Additional event sponsors include McCracken County, CSI, Baptist Health, Mercy Health, and Bryant Law Center.

In 2021, President Joe Biden signed legislation that made Juneteenth, which falls on June 19, a federal holiday.  Juneteenth is an annual commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States after the Civil War.
