Effective Monday, September 28, the public recycling drop-off location will move from the Green for Life (GFL) Transfer Station on State Street to the Republic Services facility at 829 Burnett Street.
This change results from the City’s change in contracts for collecting the City’s solid waste and recycling. City crews will continue to collect solid waste as they do now. Under this new agreement, City crews will take the solid waste to the Republic Services Transfer Station at 829 Burnett Street. From there, the solid waste will be transferred to a disposal facility in Union City, Tennessee, with recyclables hauled to a facility in Memphis, Tennessee.
The recycling drop-off service on Burnett Street will be available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. until noon. The facility is closed on Sundays and on New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
To use the facility and for data collection, participants will drive through the facility gate and over the scales, and then show their driver’s license to the attendant. Signs will clearly mark the drop-off bins. There is no charge for the general public to drop off recyclables.
The list of accepted recyclable materials will remain unchanged. Accepted recyclables are as follows:
- Pasteboard (which includes cereal and other similar-type boxes).
- Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, phone books, hardback and paperback books, office paper.
- Tin, steel, and aluminum cans.
- Plastic containers. Please rinse containers before bringing them to the facility.
Republic Services will NOT accept electronics, batteries, household hazardous waste, refrigerators, freezers, tires, or glass.
As a reminder, Paducah residents may also use the City’s voluntary, curbside recycling service, which is included as part of the monthly solid waste service. A 96-gallon blue rollout container will be delivered to the residential address, with collection at curbside/roadside on the same day as household garbage. Curbside recycling is collected every other week.
