Approximately 143 million households in the United States will be receiving their initial invitation to respond to the 2020 Census. Households should be receiving the invitation between now and March 20 and are encouraged to respond when they receive their invitation.
Mayor Brandi Harless says, “I’m urging all of the residents of Paducah and McCracken County to respond to the 2020 Census. Your responses to this once-a-decade population count will help shape the future of our community and informs how billions of dollars in federal funding is distributed for important programs and services in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and emergency response. Plus, the Census count impacts our representation in Congress.”
Households have the option of responding online, by phone, or by mail. All households receiving an invitation in the mail will receive a second letter in the mail shortly after reminding them to respond. Then, households that still haven’t responded will receive a series of additional reminders, including a paper questionnaire in mid-April. Census takers will follow up in May with households that don’t respond to collect responses in person.
Harless adds, “For this census, it has never been easier to respond on your own, whether online, over the phone, or by mail—all without having to meet a census taker. I challenge our area to respond on their own to the census. Starting next week, the Census will be tracking the response rates. Let’s make sure every person in this area is counted.”
To review the 2020 Response Rate Map, visit https://2020census.gov/en/response-rates.html. Currently, the webpage has the 2010 self-response rates. The 2020 response rates will begin to populate the map on March 20 and will continue to be updated as the census responses are received.
